Burglars go on a Diwali break-in spree

AHMEDABAD: Thieves struck closed houses in different areas of the city with their owners away on vacation.
Mitesh Raval of Shreenathdwar Society in Vadaj has lodged an FIR on Saturday that between 3am and 5am thieves had broken into his house and another house in adjoining Krishnanagar Society and decamped with gold jewellery and cash worth a total of Rs 1.90 lakh.
Similarly, Rajesh Makwana of Shantinagar Society-1 of Vejalpur has lodged an FIR that between November 5 and 10 when the family had gone out of station, thieves entered their house by breaking the iron window grill and had fled with gold and silver jewellery, cash and camera worth a total of Rs 3.45 lakh.
Two other incidents of burglary were reported from Sabarmati and Shaherkotda. “Bhavesh Mistry of Agman Flats at New Ranip in Sabarmati has lodged a complaint that on the evening of November 7, thieves entered his house by breaking the lock on the main door of the house and decamped with gold jewellery and cash worth a total of Rs 1.45 lakh,” said a police official of Sabarmati police station.
Dinesh Jain of Maruti Complex in Saraspur has alleged that on Saturday burglars broke into his house and fled with gold jewellery and cash worth Rs 2.76 lakh. Shaherkotda police is investigating the case.
It was not only burglars who went on a rampage during the Diwali holidays, snatchers too laid their hands on soft targets.
Meena Lalal a 62-year-old woman, resident of Vijaypark of Maninagar has lodged a complaint with Kalupur police station that while she was passing through Revdi Bazar on foot on Saturday, two men came near her on a motorcycle, snatched her gold chain and sped away.
Kalupur police are probing the case.
