AGRA: Three persons of a family were killed while three others sustained injuries after the car they were travelling in rammed into a divider and overturned on Agra-Lucknow Expressway early on Monday.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 3am near Bhadan village in Firozabad district.
The family hails from Asaudah in Bahadurgarh tehsil of Jhajjar district in Haryana.
The victims have been identified as Nirmala (51), her son Sandeep (25) and her nephew Sanjeev (29). They died on the spot, while Nirmala’s daughter Sweety (18), who was supposed to join her MBBS first year class on Monday was injured along with her cousin Shweta and aunt Indu Bala.
Speaking to TOI, Deepak Chandan Dixit, SHO of Nagla Khangar said, “The victims were traveling in MUV driven by Sanjeev. Prima facie, it seems that Sanjeev fell asleep on the wheels and lost control of the vehicle.”
“The car was immensely damaged and victims were thrown out it as they were not wearing seat belts,” he added.
Karan Chanda, Nirmala’s husband, said, “They were supposed to drop Sweety at her college and return a couple of days later. Everyone was excited, as Sweety was the first one in the family to qualify for MBBS, but now those happy faces are no more in our family.”
The three bodies were handed over to the family members on Monday evening after autopsy.
