Food critic Melissa Leong shares her tricks for staying in shape all year long - despite being paid to eat on camera SIX days per week

- Despite being paid to eat, Ms Leong is equally committed to keeping fit
- She recently revealed her tips for keeping calories in check and staying in shape
Few professions sound so perfectly idyllic as that of a food critic.
Literally paid to eat, culinary writers are constantly confronted with delectable dishes from some of the world's finest restaurants.
But with award-winning cuisine comes considerable calories, which means staying in shape is a job in itself for gastronomical gourmets.
Melissa Leong, an Australian food writer and TV presenter, knows the pitfalls of professional eating all too well and recently opened up to Body and Soul about how she maintains her trim physique while sampling more-ish meals all day long.

It wasn't until she reached her early thirties when Ms Leong realised her dream job was not only adding to her life satisfaction, but also to her waistline.
'My metabolism wasn't the same as what it was, I didn't look the same anymore…I would have these massive eating sessions with my chef friends and it never occurred to me once that [they] are all dudes who are six foot something and 150 kilos.'
Her latest role as presenter of The Chef's Line on SBS Australia calls for her to eat on camera six days a week, a commitment which prompted Ms Leong to significantly up her workout game.

Ms Leong exercises every single day and favours Pilates, yoga and high intensity interval training
She recently shared an Instagram story explaining she now exercises seven days a week, in the form of Pilates based work outs and at-home high intensity interval circuits.
Ms Leong regularly shares images of herself stretching on reformer racks inside yoga and Pilates studios around the world.
When it comes to preserving her figure, Ms Leong said it's all about meal planning, moderation and paying attention to what her body is trying to tell her.

Ms Leong said her 'death row' meal will always be her mother's Hainanese chicken and rice, inspired by her Singaporean heritage

Ms Leong focuses on balanced meals filled with protein, vegetables and a minimal amount of complex carbohydrates
On days off when she isn't 'eating out professionally', the writer keeps things simple by reducing complex carbs and snacking more heavily on protein and vegetables.
'It's about cooking for yourself because you know what you're putting into your food, and I know what works for me,' she said.
And despite her wealth of experience at Michelin starred establishments, Ms Leong said her go-to 'death row' meal will always be her mother's Singaporean Hainanese chicken and rice.
