Nomination to VC search committee at BU draws flak
Nov 13, 2018, 00:50 ISTCoimbatore: A controversy has erupted over the nomination of a member to the vice-chancellor search committee for the Bharathiar University by the university’s senate.
Two members, each from the syndicate and the senate of the university ought to be nominated for the VC search committee, which will be completed with a third member nominated by the governor. The senate and syndicate meetings for the purpose are set to be held on Thursday and Friday.
Meanwhile, a fraction of the senate members have decided to back C Subramaniam as the nominee. This has come under criticism. Subramaniam has already been the registrar of BU, besides being a member of the university’s syndicate and senate. The nominees for the VC search committee, should be by norms, be not connected to the university in any way.
Meanwhile, another faction in the senate has decided to nominate S Sudalaimuthu, the former vice-chancellor of Alagappa University, who is now the VC of Karpagam Academy of Higher Education as the VC search committee nominee.
This has created a situation where there needs to be a polling to choose a senate nominee for the VC search committee, said sources.
