The Congress on Monday claimed that the Modi government’s response to the Supreme Court on the Rafale deal is a “virtual admission” that the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) was not consulted before announcing the deal.
“There is a virtual admission that the Cabinet Committee on Security was not consulted before. You will consult after giving the contract or you will consult before the contract? I have not heard of a case where the carriage is placed ahead of the horse,” senior Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters at the party’s official briefing. Referring to the government’s submissions to the top court, he said, “These 20 pages is like Hamlet without the Prince of Denmark. ‘The Prince of Denmark’ is the price. Price we still do not have. Prince of Denmark remains elusive. We have the whole Ramayan but Lord Ram is nowhere mentioned,” he said. However, Mr. Singhvi said the party didn’t have direct access to the government’s submissions to the top court.
For almost a year now, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has been alleging corruption in the Rafale deal.
