This is the haunting moment an accused predator who punched a woman in the face before sexually assaulting her in a park calmly changes his outfit before fleeing.

The alleged sexual attacker was caught on CCTV walking into a public car park to change his clothes before jumping the fence and cycling away from the park in Liverpool in Sydney's south-west on Sunday night.

Moments earlier, police allege he had punched a 51-year-old woman, who is understood to be homeless, several times in the face before sexually assaulting her.

He was said to have fled from the scene after a group of strangers who heard the victim's screams chased him down a laneway.

Footage revealed the man cycling away from the park (pictured) in Liverpool in Sydney's south-west in the early hours of Monday morning

Just before midnight, the woman said she had noticed a man watching her as she was walking along a track at Lighthorse Park.

As she approached the stairs to Newbridge Road, the man followed her and punched her in the face several times.

He continued to physically assault her before sexually assaulting her.

Three people nearby were alerted to the attack when the woman began screaming and rushed to her aid.

However, the unidentified man ran from the scene where he was chased up the stairs and onto Terminus Street.

After chasing the man into a laneway on George Street, he disappeared out of sight and is believed to have escaped by cycling from the scene.

Police are now trying to track down the man seen on the CCTV footage jumping a fence into a carpark, before changing clothes and leaving again.

He is described as being of a skinny build, dark skinned and of African appearance, and about 165-175cm tall.

He was wearing a orange/blue coloured fluro jumper, long pants and boots.

'The attack itself was cowardly ... to punch a woman a number of times to the face,' Detective Chief Inspector Dean Johnstone from NSW Police told reporters on Monday.

'We are aware that this male was seen entering a car park of a business on Terminus Street where it is believed he changed his clothing into a light-coloured shirt and light-coloured shorts,' Inspector Johnstone said.

The woman was taken to Liverpool Hospital with bruising and lacerations to her face and damage to her teeth.

A crime scene was established by police from Liverpool Police Area Command and it was examined by forensic specialists.
