EPL GW 12 Roundup: City reign supreme in Manchester Derby; Refereeing controversies mar other matches

Manchester City 3 - 1 Manchester United | Thanks to the the goals from David Silva (12'), Sergio Aguero (48') and Iikay Gundogan (86'), City came out on the top in the much anticipated Manchester Derby. Anthony Martial converted from the spot in the 58th minute after substitute Romelu Lukaku was fouled by the on-rushing Ederson but City proved too strong an opponent for José Mourinho's men to kindle any further hope of revival. This was City's first home derby victory in four years. Liverpool 2 - 0 Fulham | Controversy marred Liverpool's victory over Fulham at Anfield. Aleksandar Mitrovic's goal was wrongly adjudged off-side and Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool's opener just 12 seconds after the contentious call from the linesman. Xherdan Shaqiri scored Liverpool's second goal in the 53rd minute and ensured three points for the home side. Chelsea 0 - 0 Everton | Everton ensured a hard fought goalless draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea's Alvaro Morata had three penalty appeals turned down as The Blues failed to pierce Everton's defense. Arsenal 1 - 1 Wolverhampton Wanderers | Arsenal extended their run without a league win to three games after a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves. Ivan Cavaleiro's first half goal (13') following a mistake from Granit Xhaka was cancelled out late on by Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the 86th minute. Crystal Palace 0 – 1 Tottenham Hotspur | Tottenham’s 20-year-old Argentinean defender Juan Foyth conceded two penalties on his Premier League debut in Spurs’ 3-2 victory at Wolves last week. However, the youngster was the quickest to react as he headed home Harry Kane’s partially blocked header to give his team all three points. Newcastle United 2 – 1 AFC Bournemouth | Salomon Rondon scored twice before Jefferson Lerma pulled one back in an action paced first half at St. James’ Park. Rondon put Newcastle ahead in the 7th minute after some good work from DeAndre Yedlin and doubled the lead in the 40th minute. There was a pause in the game as Adam Smith had to be stretchered off the field due to an injury sustained while preparing to take a free-kick. Southampton 1 – 1 Watford | Charlie Austin was furious after having a goal disallowed in the second half which would’ve given the Saints a 2-0 lead. Manolo Gabbiadini put the hosts ahead in the first half with a well taken left-footed strike. Austin had the ball in the back of the net but the referee incorrectly believed it went in off Maya Yoshida who was in an offside position. Cardiff City 2 – 1 Brighton & Hove Albion | Brighton took the lead just six minutes into the game when Lewis Dunk ran past Sol Bamba with ease to head home. The visitors were unlucky though as a deflected shot fell kindly for Callum Paterson to equalize in the 28th minute. Brighton were reduced to 10 men when Dale Stephens was shown a red card for a lunge shortly after conceding. Huddersfield Town 1 – 1 West Ham United | Huddersfield who won their first game of the season last week started brightly as Alex Pritchard opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Pritchard became the first Huddersfield player to score at home in the Premier League in 726 minutes. Leicester City 0 – 0 Burnley | Leicester made an emotional return to the King Power Stadium for the first time since the helicopter crash outside the stadium which took the life of owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. There was a two-minute silence before kick-off with Vichai's son Aiyawatt in attendance. Leicester started brightly as Jamie Vardy’s effort was cleared off the line by Matt Lowton but they couldn’t maintain the intensity as both teams played out a goalless draw. (Image: Reuters)
