Mumbai: Lake levels dip, call likely on water cuts

MUMBAI: With levels of the seven lakes that supply potable water to Mumbai at nearly 77% as compared to 93% last year on the corresponding day, the civic body is likely to take a call on executing water cuts in the city. In 2016 too, lake levels were at 90% at this time. A fortnight ago, civic officials had hinted at rationing water supply after Diwali to ensure that the stock lasts up to next monsoon.


On Sunday, the water stock in the seven lakes of was 2 lakh million litres less as compared to last year. In 2017, the city's water stock was 13.33 lakh million litres while on Sunday, it was 11.11 lakh million litres. This year, the monsoon months of August and September were fairly dry.
