Vijayamma slams Naidu for ‘trying to make fun’ of the incident

The YSRCP has charged the TDP government in A.P. with deliberately diluting the investigation into the attack on party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in Visakhapatnam on October 25. Addressing the media here on Sunday, a day before the relaunch of the Praja Sankalpa Yatra by Mr. Jagan, the party honorary president, Y.S. Vijayamma, expressed concern that the SIT investigation did not make any progress. Wondering why the State government was hesitating to order a probe by a third party such as the Central agencies, Ms. Vijayamma said, “We have no faith in the investigation launched by the State as the CM and the DGP had set the tone by rushing to the media with concocted versions even before investigation began.”

“Mr. Naidu in particular, instead of ordering a comprehensive probe or uttering a word of comfort to Mr. Jagan, has been trying to make fun of the incident,” she said.

In this context, Ms. Vijayamma recalled how the former Chief Minister of the unified State, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who was then in the Opposition, rushed to Tirupati and sat on dharna in protest against the attack on Mr. Naidu at Alipiri.

“This exposes the contrast between the two leaders and their maturity levels,” Ms. Vijayamma said.

The incident also exposed the law and order situation, wherein the Leader of the Opposition had no protection in the VIP Lounge of the airport, which was considered a secured place, she added.

“When no sharp objects are allowed inside the airport, how can someone enter the place with a knife? This is the key aspect the SIT ignored after the TDP leadership started making efforts to make light of the incident,” she observed. Alleging that there had been reports of failed attempts made on the life of Mr. Jagan in Guntur and Godavari districts, Ms. Vijayamma said the “conspirators” had chosen the airport as there would be none around Mr. Jagan.

Ever since YSRCP’s formation, the TDP and the Congress had been creating troubles to the party and Mr. Jagan’s family, she said, adding, “We are boldly facing them.”

Mr. Jagan did not succumb to any pressure and remained undeterred as people were with him all through, Ms. Vijayamma said.

Trying to strike an emotional chord with people, Ms. Vijayamma said it was for them to ensure the safety of her son (Mr. Jagan), who was set to resume his yatra from Monday.
