NAVI MUMBAI: The demand for a probe by National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the killing of the tigress has gained global support as many have responded to an online petition addressed to the Prime Minister.
Netizens from across the US, the UK, France, Holland, Norway, Luxembourg, Poland, Belgium, Australia and Israel, besides people from India have signed the petition floated on change.org by an environment-focused website thenatureconnect.com. It was initiated by Navi Mumbai activist B N Kumar.
Hailing the Prime Minister for his declared stand on conserving tigers, activists pointed out that the killing of T1 raises several questions-no efforts being made to take alternative routes either to isolate or tranquillize the tigress, said Kumar.
This also brings into focus a debate over the disappearance of Jay, a tiger who had mysteriously disappeared from Karandla Wildlife Sanctuary near Nagpur.
Kishor Rithe, founder of Satpuda Foundation, said the inquiry into Avni's death must consider the human-carnivore conflict as 13 were allegedly killed by Avni.
