PATNA: Patna DM Kumar Ravi has asked authorities of three premier government hospitals in the city – Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) and Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) – to keep doctors on standby and ensure availability of medicines so that medical help could be provided to Chhath devotees and revellers in case of an emergency.

The hospitals have been asked to keep their emergency departments open round the clock for the next two days. In fact, the hospitals have already earmarked beds and stocked life-saving drugs.

“We have earmarked 50 beds in the emergency department to provide medical help to Chhath puja devotees and revellers. Some patients who are doing well have been shifted to general wards. Life-saving drugs and drips have also been made available in the emergency department. A team of 80 doctors will be on duty in the emergency department to provide medical help to people,” PMCH superintendent Dr Rajiv Ranjan Prasad said.

NMCH superintendent Dr Chandra Shekhar said 10 beds have been earmarked at the hospital for Chhath devotees and revellers. “If required, we will arrange additional manpower. More than 30 medicos, who are doing internship in the hospital, will be deployed at various ghats to provide medical support to people,” Dr Shekhar said.

Patna civil surgeon Pramod Jha said 92 medical teams have been set up at various ghats and 34 ambulances stationed to meet any eventuality.
