Top Gear’s Chris Harris Crashes Porsche 911, Escapes Unhurt

Chris Harris has been involved in a pretty nasty accident while driving a Porsche 911.

Details are limited, but BBC News is reporting the incident occurred earlier today near Tintern at around 13:30 GMT (8:30 a.m. EST) local time. According to the publication, Harris was driving the car when he crashed into a pickup truck that was making a three-point turn.

Little else is known about the accident at this point, but a witness said the Porsche hit the side of the truck. No one was injured in the crash, but photos from the scene show the 911 was badly damaged as the front bumper, front fender and hood were destroyed.

In a short statement, a spokesperson for Top Gear confirmed the crash by saying “We can confirm that Chris Harris was involved in a car accident in Wales earlier today whilst working on a feature for Top Gear magazine. Chris, his passenger [reportedly a senior executive from the magazine] and the driver of the other car, were unhurt and police were called to the scene.”

While it’s fortunate that no one was injured, it’s just the latest in a string of accidents tied to Top Gear. The most famous incident occurred ago a decade ago when former co-presenter Richard Hammond crashed the Vampire dragster at around 300 mph (482 km/h).

Hammond’s bad luck followed him to The Grand Tour where he was involved in another serious accident while driving the Rimac Concept_One. In that particular crash, Hammond lost control of the vehicle and flew approximately 98 feet (30 meters) off the top a hill before hitting the road below.

The car then rolled down the hill backwards before coming to a rest and catching on fire. Hammond fractured his knee in the crash and had to have surgery which resulted in him having a reduce role in a number of episodes.
