India’s largest open triathlon, organised by Great Hyderabad Adventure Club across two locations at GMC Balayogi Stadium, Gachibowli, and ICFAI Foundation of Higher Education here on Sunday, evoked good response with about 1,300 taking part in it.
The ninth edition kicked off around 5.30 a.m. and the enthusiasm of the participants was pretty encouraging too as they braved the morning chill to make a point or two. The run featured Half Iron and Olympic categories in the 50-metre swimming pools.
With the logistics taken care of, the participants had the liberty to push themselves as the cycling and running courses on the ISB road were challenging. A few cycles suffered punctures, which were repaired by the support team.
Interestingly, 400 participants in the run hailed from Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai and Delhi.
The triathlon was targeted towards new entrants and involved 300 metres swimming, eight km cycling and two km running while the mini triathlon was for kids of five years and above featuring 50 metre swimming, four km cycling and one km running.
The professional category included the Half Iron, Olympic and Sprint categories with the former involving 1.9 kms swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running.
