She recently confirmed she had not been invited to former Today co-host Karl Stefanovic and his fiancee Jasmine Yarbrough's upcoming wedding. 

And now the 'surprising reason' why Lisa Wilkinson was really snubbed from the guest list has been revealed.

New Idea claims that Karl knew the 58-year-old Project star wouldn't show up, even if she was invited.

A source told the publication: 'Karl knew she wouldn't come even if he asked her.'

'There is too much water under that bridge now and they both know it's too hard to come back from everything that's been said and done.'

The unconfirmed 'source' also added that if Lisa was at the wedding it would have 'gone down like a lead balloon' with the other guests, especially since fellow guests include head honchos at Nine and former colleagues.

The publication also claims that Karl's brother and sister-in-law, Peter Stefanovic and Sylvia Jeffreys, weren't too keen on a possible 'awkward' reunion with Lisa at the wedding as they're 'very loyal' to Karl. 

Earlier this month, Lisa confirmed to Confidential that she had not been invited to the nuptials. 

There have long been reports that Karl and Lisa had a purely professional relationship, despite sharing a news desk for over a decade.

'There are elements of Today which I do miss but I am so focused on my new life and the new challenges which I have,' Lisa told Confidential.

Meanwhile, Karl was not in attendance when Lisa renewed her wedding vows with husband Pete FitzSimons last year.

In attendance were Today stars and Channel Nine personalities including  Pete and Sylvia, as well as Richard Wilkins.

Karl and Mara and Mine shoe designer Jasmine are set to wed in San Jòse del Cabo, Mexico in December.

The celebrity couple will tie the knot in a picturesque chapel at the One&Only Palmilla Resort, where they'll also be staying.

The wedding will be a three-day affair, with the soon-to-be newlyweds sparing no expense.

They've booked two villas, one at US$8500 (approximately AU$11600) per night, and another for US$11000 (approximately $AU15000) per night.

Lisa quit the Today show last year because Karl, 44, was reportedly earning $2 million - double her $1.1 million salary.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Karl and Lisa's management for comment, in relation to this story.
