165 drug peddlers arrested this year

CHANDIGARH: Police have registered 159 cases under NDPS Act and arrested 165 drug peddlers with banned injectable vials, heroin, opium, smack, ganja, charas and poppy husk till date this year.

According to data, crime branch police arrested 62 drug peddlers in 60 cases, while operations cell arrested 15 smugglers with contraband in 15 cases. Sixteen police stations arrested 88 persons and registered 80 cases under NDPS Act.


Data reveals that maximum cases were registered by Maloya police (16). Manimajra police station came next with 12 cases followed by Sector 11 police station with 11 cases, Sector 36 police with eight cases and Sarangpur and Sector 39 police registered six cases each.


IT park police station registered five cases, Sector 49 police four cases, sectors 17 and 31 police and Mauli Jagran police three cases each. Sector 34 police arrested two smugglers in two cases.


Police have arrested maximum smugglers with banned injectable vials. More than 3,400 banned injections had been recovered from different parts of the city. Cops said it is not possible to buy banned injectable vials from city-based chemists without prescription. The accused used to buy these vials from city periphery. During interrogation, the accused told police that they had brought these vials mainly from Ambala and Saharanpur for Rs 60-80 and sold them to drug addicts for Rs 280 to Rs 300.
