Trina Solar impacted by safeguard duty

Web Exclusive  /  October

The Indian Government’s decision of imposing safeguard duty on solar panels and modules imported from China and Malaysia has left its impact on Trina Solar, a Chinese solar module maker. However, the company will continue to export from its Thailand and Vietnam manufacturing facilities. For a period of one year from July 2018, the Finance Ministry imposed 25 per cent safeguard duty on solar panels and modules imported from China and Malaysia. Imposing the safeguard duty may slowdown India’s solar capacity addition, making it difficult to predict, whether the country’s 2022 target to add 100 GW solar project capacity can be met or not, stated Yin Rong Fang, Executive Vice President, Trina.
