Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management R.B. Udayakumar on Saturday said that 4,399 places had been identified as vulnerable during north-east monsoon and over 9,500 rescue personnel would be engaged across the State.
In Thoothukudi, 36 places had been identified as vulnerable. First respondents, the police, fire and rescue services personnel were kept on alert, he said.
Addressing reporters after a review meeting on arrangements made as the monsoon had set in, he said that activities to prevent spread of dengue and swine flu, and precautionary measure to prevent disasters were in full swing across the State.
Information and Publicity Minister Kadambur C. Raju said that 1,400 DBC workers (Domestic Breeding Checkers) were engaged across the district, while 420 of them worked within the Corporation limits to check spread of the diseases.
Both ministers and senior officials inspected various rescue and disaster management equipment and exhibits creating awareness of conditions conducive to breeding of mosquitoes at the Collectorate.
They distributed cloth bags to encourage people give up use of plastic goods. Commissioner for Revenue Administration K. Satyagopal, Collector Sandeep Nanduri, Superintendent of Police Murali Rambha, District Revenue Officer M. Veerappan, Corporation Commissioner Alby John Varghese, Sub-Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon, Assistant Collector (training) S. Anu, DRDA Project Director S. Thanapathy and other officials were present.
