A 21-year-old man, who allegedly raped his nine-year-old niece, was beaten to death by villagers in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district.

The police on Saturday said the man was lynched after the villagers found out he had raped his niece while her grand-mother was in a different room.

The incident happened on Friday night at the Karlajori village under the Muffassil Police Station area.

The villagers reached the spot on hearing the scream of the victim, caught hold of the accused and beat him up. He was later taken to a hospital in Chaibasa where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The girl was sent for medical examination.
