Delhi Police Special Cell have arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly supplying ammunition to Maoists in Maharastra, Odisha and Chattisgarh. DCP (Special Cell) P S Kushwaha said Ajeet Ray was arrested from Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli Saturday, and seized 45 prohibited bore cartridges of INSAS and SLR rifles from him.
On July 12, the Special Cell had arrested Ram Krishna Singh of Bihar from Delhi and recovered 407 illegal cartridges. Singh told police he would procure illegal cartridges from Arrah in Bihar, and supply them to CPI (Maoist) commanders through contacts in Gadchiroli.
Police said Krishna also disclosed that he provided cartridges to Ray, an ammunition supplier who had been involved in various crimes in Maharashtra, Odisha and Chhatisgarh since 1990.
“Ray has been involved in anti-national activities for the last 25 years. He was arrested once by Odisha Police in 2008. Delhi Police had declared a reward of Rs 2 lakh for his arrest,” said Kushwaha.
Earlier, he provided logistic support to Shankar Anna, a Maoist commander, for which he was detained by Maharashtra Police in 1992, but later set free.
