Cooperation Minister ‘Sellur’ K. Raju inaugurated some Corporation projects worth ₹2.68 crore here on Saturday.
Parks were built under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). The park at HMS Colony (ward 21) was built at a cost of ₹ 47.43 lakh.
Madurai North MLA V.V Rajan Chellappa inaugurated another park at Vivekanandha Nagar, built at a cost of ₹39.92 lakh.
Corporation officials said that more such parks would be inaugurated so as to increase recreational space.
Mr. Raju also inaugurated urban primary health centres at Virattipathu (ward 27), constructed at a cost of ₹53 lakh, at V.Karisalkulam (ward 23) at a cost of ₹53 lakh, and at Anna Nagar (ward 30) at a cost of ₹ 74.5 lakh.
Madurai Collector S. Natarajan and Corporation Commissioner S. Aneesh Sekhar were present at the function.
Municipal Administration and Water Supply Principal Secretary Harmander Singh inspected the parks on Friday.
He had stated that the Corporation would approach resident welfare associations in the areas where new parks are being inaugurated so that the public can take care of the utility.
He said that parks are assets to the local community and the Corporation was working towards sensitising the public to help the district administration regarding maintenance of parks.
