TRICHY: Health department officials on Saturday night sealed a clinic at Ammapettai in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu after an unqualified woman was found treating patients. The woman was identified as Sundari, 22, hailing from a village near Manapparai.
Nagu Clinic was allegedly owned by a Trichy-based doctor named Arun Kumar. According to Trichy collector K Rajamani, the doctor runs around 12 hospitals in the district. Inspections would be conducted in all of them.
Following several complaints by people in the area, a team of officials led by joint director of health services Dr S Samsath Begum visited Nagu Clinic on Saturday night. More than six patients were there in the clinic. Sundari was found to be treating one of the patients.
When the health officials inquired Sundari about her qualification, she told them that she wasn’t a doctor, but a nurse. But according to Begum, Sundari didn’t have any certificate at that point of time to show them to prove that she was a qualified nurse.
“We found that she was administering diclofenac injection to one of the fever patients. We advise doctors not to administer this injection to fever patients,” Dr Begum added.
A few expired drugs were also found in the clinic. The officials seized them.
The officials filed a complaint with the Inamkulathur police.
