TIRUCHI
A State Transport Corporation bus hit a motorcycle causing the death of a pillion-rider and lost control thereafter and ploughed into a bus stop injuring one person near here on Sunday.
The accident took place on the Tiruchi - Dindigul national highway at Ramji Nagar on the city's outskirts in the afternoon. The bus was on its way to Thevaram from Tiruchi when the accident occurred.
Police sources said three persons on a motorcycle - M. Rajamanickam, S. Pavithra Raj and P. Madhukumar - all from Ettarai village near Tiruchi were trying to cross the road when the bus hit the vehicle and lost control and ploughed into a bus stop causing panic among those waiting at the stop.
The trio on the motorcycle sustained injuries in the collision with one of them Madhukumar succumbing to his injuries later. The other two, including the two-wheeler rider Räjamanickam, are undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
A 17-year-old youth A. Prakash who was waiting near the bus stop also sustained injuries. The bus driver S. Muniyandi has been named as the accused. The Ramji Nagar police are investigating the case.
