V.S. Ugrappa, MP-elect, exhorted people to recall contributions of leaders towards the welfare of society and try to inculcate and follow them in their lives.
“What is important is to know and recall the contributions, achievements and sacrifice of great leaders and try to follow them in leading a good life instead of finding faults in them,” he said after inaugurating Tipu Jayanti celebrations here on Saturday.
Lauding Tipu Sultan as a great warrior, he said that the former had given a good administration and propagated religious harmony.
In a veiled attack on the BJP, Mr. Ugrappa sought to know their propriety of opposing the celebrations.
“During celebrations of birth anniversaries of all great leaders, let us vow to live as children of Bharat Mata and of Bhuvaneshwari,” he exhorted.
Syed Moinuddin Khadri, associate teacher, Government High School in Handyal, delivered a special lecture on the life and works of Tipu Sultan.
Ramprasath Manohar, Deputy Commissioner who presided, also spoke.
G. Somashekar Reddy, MLA, who was to preside over the function, Bharathi Thimmareddy, ZP President, both from BJP, were conspicuous by their absence.
Tipu Jayanti was also celebrated in various parts of the district.
