MADURAI: A Railway Protection Force (RPF) police sub-inspector was found dead in the toilet of a train from Chennai to Kanyakumari on Saturday. The railway police retrieved his body and sent it to the Asaripallam Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of his death.

The train that left Chennai Egmore station on Friday evening reached Kanyakumari around 6.30am on Saturday. Sanitary workers were engaged in cleaning the coaches when they saw a man who was motionless in the toilet of an air conditioners coach and tried to wake him up, assuming that he could have been in an inebriate condition.

Shocked when they realised that he was dead they informed the railway police and a team, led by inspector Praveen Kumar, rushed to the spot and conducted preliminary investigations. The police identified the man as Dayalan, 58 from Chengalpattu in Kancheepuram district who is a RPF sub-inspector.

Police sources said that there was no identifiable injury on the man’s body and that there might not be foul play behind the reason of his death. They added that the cause of death could be ascertained only based on the outcome of the post mortem. The sub-inspector’s family was informed about the incident.
