Says the BJP and the AIADMK govts. must be dislodged

The DMK was eager to see simultaneous elections to the State Legislative Assembly and the Lok Sabha next year, party president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin said on Friday. Exhorting party cadre to work in a coordinated manner to ensure the victory of the DMK in the elections, Mr. Stalin said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government at the Centre and the AIADMK government in the State should be dislodged. He was speaking at the wedding of party MLA Stalin Kumar, at Thuraiyur.

Big draw

Leaders of various parties were keen to come to Tamil Nadu to discuss alliance with the DMK, Mr. Stalin said, pointing to visits of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday and Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury in the next couple of days. This only showed that the DMK was steadfast in its principles laid down by its late leader M. Karunanidhi, Mr. Stalin said.

Urging people to choose Tamil names for their children, Mr. Stalin said Tamils could live with dignity only if they upheld the greatness of the language.

Former Ministers K.N. Nehru, K. Ponmudi and U. Mathivanan also attended the wedding.
