Schoolgirl dies after falling from auto
A 10-year-old girl died after falling from an auto near Sathyavedu on the Tiruvallur- Andhra Pradesh border on Thursday evening. According to the police, Tamil Selvi, a 6th standard student, was returning home in an autorickshaw. “When the driver manoeuvred the vehicle over a speedbreaker, the girl fell in the impact,” said a senior police officer. She was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead.
Man trespasses into BJP office
A 42-year-old man barged into the BJP State headquarters, Kamalalayam, on Thursday and claimed that he was the new State unit president. According to the police, around 12.30 p.m., Sudarshan alias Narendra Mari, walked in to the office and identified himself as the new State president. Finding his behaviour suspicious, the staff informed the police.
Six tonnes of gutkha seized
Over six tonnes of gutkha worth nearly ₹6 lakh was seized from a godown in Poonamallee on Friday by a special team led by Adyar deputy commissioner Shashank Sai. Five persons have been arrested. According to the police, the team raided the godown after receiving a tip-off.
Magistrate injured in accident
A 39-year-old magistrate of the Juvenile Justice Board was injured after a two-wheeler hit her on Purasawalkam High Road on Friday morning.
Shanmuga Priya was crossing the road when a two-wheeler hit her. She sustained injuries.
Boy falls from second floor, injured
A one-and-a-half-year-old boy sustained injuries after falling from the second floor of an apartment complex in T. Nagar on Thursday. According to the police, Arun Kumar, working in a restaurant, had gone for work while his wife and son were at home. The child was playing in the balcony of the house from where he slipped and fell.
