VARANASI: SP president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has said that there is sufficient time to explore the possibility of a grand alliance ahead of 2019 general elections. He also taunted the BJP-led government at the Centre on demonetisation.
During a brief chat with reporters here on Thursday, Akhilesh said, "My focus is on Madhya Pradesh election, after which all possibilities for a grand alliance will be explored."
Akhilesh, who had visited the city to attend Gowardhan Puja organised mainly by Yadav fraternity a day after Diwali, admitted that some development work has taken place in Varanasi. "But, all remaining development will be ensured when SP will return to power in the state," he added.
Mocking CM Yogi Adityanath, he said: "As per teachings of our ancestors, reciting of 'Hanuman Chalisa' only is sufficient to end all the problems. But, the CM of the state is running from one temple to other despite the fact that none of his efforts are ending the problems of the state or its farmers."
He said that when the issue of sugarcane farmers was raised before him, the CM gave surprising statement that excess consumption of sugar can cause diabetes. Akhilesh warned the people to be alert in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Akhilesh called upon the people to take lessons from Lord Krishna's life, teachings and 'leelas'. He said all religions give similar teachings. He also highlighted achievements and welfare schemes of his regime.
He also visited some SP leaders in Hartirath and Nati Imali areas before leaving the city.
