PMO to help Indians stuck in Malaysia
TNN | Nov 11, 2018, 01:02 ISTKOLKATA: A five-member team has been formed, led by PMO under-secretary Anup Sharma, to facilitate the return of Indian workers stranded in Malaysia. The number has now reached 59, including 15 workers from Rajasthan and three who are reportedly missing.
“The team formed by the PMO has got in touch with the Indian embassy in Malaysia and has asked the Indian high commissioner to get in touch with the Malaysian government,” said National Anti-Trafficking Committee (NATC) chairman SK Jinnar Ali.
Ali believes that Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee will also take up the matter with the Centre in her own capacity. “When we were trying to bring back the goldsmiths stranded in Iran, she played a very important role. I believe this time, too, we will get her cooperation,” Ali said.
The families of three workers — Abdul Salam Mondal, Atihar Rahaman Mondal and Sahid Akhtar Mondal — claimed that they had gone missing. The relatives were told that the trio had boarded a flight from Kuala Lumpur on October 23, but they haven’t returned till date.
