E-vehicle charging stations to come up every 25 km on Bengaluru-Mysuru highway

A proposal has already been sent to the Union power ministry in this regard
BENGALURU: Electric vehicle (EV) owners can soon travel to Mysuru without the worry of running out of charge. The state energy department is likely to set up EV charging stations every 25km on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway. A fully charged electric car can run up to 120km.

A proposal has already been sent to the Union power ministry, sources said. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom), along with Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC), will facilitate 18 stations on either side from Kengeri to Columbia Asia Hospital in Mysuru. The proposal includes setting up of six stations on either side of Bengaluru-Chennai highway from Electronics City to Attibele.

The department has proposed to set up 107 charging stations, including 83 in Bengaluru and 24 on highways.

“We’ll identify locations for the stations with the help of NHAI. Facilities like rest rooms, cafeterias, etc will be provided for motorists,” an official said.

Inadequate number of charging stations has been a bane for electric car owners on inter-city routes. KSRTC, too, is planning to operate e-buses on the Bengaluru-Mysuru route. Ensuring adequate infrastructure on highways is expected to encourage more people to shift from vehicles running on traditional motor fuel to environment-friendly ones.
