Third Metropolitan Magistrate L. Jagdish Kumar on Friday extended the judicial remand of J. Srinivasa Rao alias Srinivas, the accused in the attack on YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, till November 23.
Bail plea
The bail plea filed by A. Salim, counsel of the accused, would come up for hearing on November 12.
Meanwhile, there has been no significant progress in the investigation even two weeks after the incident at the VIP Lounge in Visakhapatnam airport.
According to sources, the Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by ACP B.V.S. Nageswara Rao, has been waiting to record the statement of Mr. Jagan.
The YSRCP president had refused to give his statement to the State police stating that he had lost faith in them. He had even turned down the notices issued to him by SIT under Section 160 of the CrPc.
SIT is now seeking the court’s permission to issue a notice to Mr. Jagan under Section 164 of the CrPC, by which the Leader of the Opposition and others could record their statements in the presence of a magistrate.
A senior police officer, on condition of anonymity, said most of the witnesses remained obstinate after Mr. Jagan filed a petition in the High Court seeking investigation by an independent agency. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, DGP R.P. Thakur and ACP (North) Lanka Arjun were made respondents in the petition. The High Court posted it for November 13.
