Progress reports in pamphlet form to woo voters

As the election campaign picks up momentum, TRS leaders are busy trying to explain to voters the development activities they have taken up.

T. Harish Rao, former MLA and Minister from Siddipet, is taking a different route. In addition to attending campaign meetings, he has also made it a point that all development works taken up in his constituency are documented as progress reports and informed to voters in the form of pamphlets.

Four categories

Four types of progress reports were released by Mr. Harish Rao. In the first one, the development that took place at Siddipet district headquarters limits was explained in the name of Siddipet Pattana Pragati Nivedika (Siddipet Town Progress Report). It includes district headquarters becoming an administrative centre, police commissionerate, town becoming clean city in South India, construction of toilets in every house, development of government hospital on par with private hospitals, establishment of medical college, supply of drinking water to every house, construction of 2,500 double bedroom houses, beautification of Komaticheruvu — boating and adventure facilities, swimming pool of international standards, free coaching for the unemployed to attend competitive examinations, open gyms at six places in the town, upcoming rail connectivity, etc. The report came in the form of a booklet.

All the three mandals have three different progress reports, each of those explaining about activities taken up under panchayat raj, electricity, rural water supply, development of government schools, irrigation, roads and buildings and marketing. These pamphlets also mention the number of beneficiaries under various pension schemes, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Beema and Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

Easy to read

Similarly, for about 175 villages, such reports were printed and published, adding more substance to his campaign. “For the past six months, we have been collecting data and preparing in a simple format that can be easily read by the voters. Any literate voter can go through it and understand the development that took place in the last four years,” said an official who was involved in preparing the material.
