
THE CENTRE Saturday notified the transfer of Justice Rajesh Bindal, a senior judge at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, to Jammu and Kashmir High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended his transfer from the High Court on November 1. Justice Bindal was also chairman of the computer committee and the arrears committee at the High Court here.
On October 29, the Collegium had recommended Justice Bindal’s transfer to the Madras High Court. However, the judge had made a representation for reconsideration and also requested for alternate High Courts in north India. While declining the request for reconsideration, the Collegium had acceded to his alternative request and recommended his transfer to the J&K High Court.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (I) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, read with Article 222 (1A) of the Constitution in its application to Jammu and Kashmir, the President, after consultation with the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice Rajesh Bindal, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, as a Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on or before November 24, 2018.,” the notification reads.
Meanwhile, the Centre Friday also notified the transfer of Dr Justice Ravi Ranjan, Patna High Court Judge, to Punjab and Haryana High Court and directed him to assume charge of his office on or before November 23.
