KOLKATA : Two friends of the Class-XII girl, whose body was found floating in a pond adjacent to the railway tracks between Agarpara and Sodepur station on Thursday afternoon, were arrested on Friday.

The Sodepur resident went missing on Wednesday evening after she left her uncle’s home at Agarpara to visit Kali Puja pandals with her friends.

The girl was last seen with the two friends on the bank of the pond till late on Thursday night, the police said. The arrested duo reportedly told the police that the girl drank liquor with them near the pond, after which they took her back to her uncle’s house. “But several inconsistencies were found in their statements. The duo would be further interrogated,” an investigating officer said.

The victim’s family alleged she was murdered. “She was drugged by the accused, who later dumped her in the pond,” claimed the victim’s uncle.

Ananda Roy, DCP, Zone II, Barrackpore Commissionerate, said, “Two persons, who were well known to the victim, have been arrested.”
