PATNA: Unidentified armed criminals shot dead property dealer Bablu Kumar (40) at Mahangupur under the Janipur police station area in Patna district on Friday morning.
Janipur police station SHO Mohan Prasad Singh said Bablu was shot around 8.30am when he was talking to some people in front of his residence. The SHO said Bablu was the brother of Gonpura panchayat mukhiya Abha Devi.
“Four armed criminals reached the spot on two bikes and had heated arguments with Bablu,” the SHO said, adding preliminary investigations indicated financial dispute with some people as the main reason behind his murder.
He said before anyone could understand anything, one of the criminals pulled out a small firearm and shot at Bablu at a very close range. “The bullet hit him in the chest, killing him on the spot. The four criminals escaped,” he said, adding one live cartridge of 7.65mm was recovered from the spot.
SHO Singh said the name of one Santosh Kumar has surfaced in the case. “Bablu was to pay Santosh Rs2 lakh. However, even after several attempts by Santosh, Bablu did not make the payment. The murder seems to be a fallout of the dispute over the payment,” the SHO said. He said Santosh had been pressurizing Bablu to make his payments.
He said the body was handed over to the family members after post mortem.
