Under debt, farmer hangs self; labourer dies due to poisoning
Mazhar Ali | TNN | Nov 10, 2018, 03:53 ISTChandrapur: A farmer reeling under agrarian crisis hanged self at his farm in Pavanpar village of Sindewahi tehsil on Friday morning. The deceased, identified as Ramkrushna Jengthe, 42, was under heavy debt and had four marriageable daughters, said sources in the village.
The sources claimed that Jengthe was hit financially due to poor harvest during last three years. While his health was failing, debt taken from friends and relatives kept mounting.
Jengthe had 1.5 acres land, said the sources, however exact amount of debt on him could not be confirmed. On getting information, police team brought down the body from the tree and sent it to rural hospital in Sindewahi.
In another incident, a farm labourer deployed for spraying pesticides in the fields died in Nagsel Colony in Saoli town on Friday. It is learnt, the deceased, Khusal Deshmukh (24), was ailing due to pesticide inhalation and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Sources claimed that he was working in the fields for last many days. He fell sick a couple of days back and was being treated by local doctor. As his condition turned serious, he was referred to civil hospital in Gadchiroli. However, he breathed his last en route to Gadchiroli, the sources said.
Earlier, two tribal farm labourers had died in Mankapur village in Saoli tehsil due to pesticide inhalation.
