Several were suffered injuries after being stabbed in Australia's Melbourne, local media reported. The police there issue a statement saying that a car had burst into flames and that a small number of people were being treated for stab wounds.
"A man was arrested at the scene and has been taken to hospital under police guard in a critical condition," the Guardian Australia quoted the police as saying.
Videos and photos shared on Twitter showed a burning car and police officer in an altercation with a man clad in black.
One video (IndiaToday.in could not immediately verify its authenticity) showed the man repeatedly lunging at police officers with what looked to be a knife.
The officers ultimately fired a shot, causing the man to fall down. (Warning: The following video can be distressing to some.)

A Melbourne-based reporter tweeted that nearby buildings were placed on lockdown by the police following the incident. The journalist also said an emergency speaker system was warning people to avoid the area.
I'm told surrounding buildings are still in lockdown. Staff can't leave and no-one can enter the area. The intersection lies within a busy shopping mall, so hundreds of tourists and onlookers have gathered. There are dozens of police cars, choppers overhead. @naamanzhou #BourkeSt
