2019 VW Touareg Is A Tech-Laden, Extra Comfortable Cruiser

The Touareg is the vehicle that kicked things off for Volkswagen in the SUV segment more than 16 years ago.

It is now in its third generation and sits on top of the Tiguan, T-Roc and T-Cross.

The current Touareg shares its underpinnings with the Audi Q7 and Q8, Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus. You wouldn’t know it by just looking at it, though, as it adopts VW’s new design language on the exterior, while the cabin is includes the brand’s latest and greatest technologies.

Among them, there’s an infotainment system with a massive screen, which may be a bit of an overkill, according to CarBuyer’s review. It apparently takes a lot of time to get used to, but on the plus side, it’s highly customizable and offers access to various functions of the car.

As far as practicality is concerned, there are some good-sized door bins, a generous glove box and, since it’s only offered as a five-seater, a massive boot. The rear seats don’t exactly fold flat though, which might an issue if you want to haul very long objects.

It may share its platform with the Porsche Cayenne and the Lamborghini Urus, but the new Touareg is anything but sporty. Instead, it’s a comfortable cruiser, especially if you tick the box for the optional air suspension.

There are several driving modes to choose from that make the suspension firmer of softer. The cherry on top of the cake is the Off-Road mode, which improves the Touareg’s credentials off the beaten path, transforming it into a versatile SUV.

Not that we expect that many owners to venture off-road anyway, but it’s nice to know it can handle it. As for the rest of the review and the verdict, you’ll have to watch the video right below.
