One person was stabbed to death and two others wounded after they were attacked by a man in the centre of the Australian city of Melbourne on Friday, police said.
The incident took place at 4.30 pm (Melbourne time) at Bourke Street in the city's centre. Nearby police responded to the incident. They apprehended the man with the knife, and when he threatened them, shot him in the chest, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald. The man is in critical condition.

The report further added that no police officer was hurt in the incident.
"Three people have been stabbed, unfortunately one of them is deceased at the scene," he said. "There is no known links to terrorism at this stage we will keep an open mind as to whether there is any link."
