WA residents wake with a shake as 5.4 magnitude earthquake hits
Perth residents have felt rumblings from a 5.4 magnitude earthquake that struck in the state’s South West on Friday morning.
The earthquake — or, Perthquake, as dubbed by some — was recorded just after 5am south-east of Manjimup at a depth of about 7km.
Geoscience Australia estimated the quake could have been felt by people up to 243km away, but there were reports on Twitter of Perth residents feeling the ground shake.
Others closer to the epicentre, such as Albany residents to the south, reported being stirred from their sleep by the earthquake.
It was the strongest in a series of earthquakes felt in the Lake Muir area over the past several days.
It's not the first time an earthquake has hit around the Lake Muir area — in fact, the region has reguarly been rumbled by quakes.
A 4.7 quake hit in October, while another earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitude hit Walpole on September 16 at a depth of 10 kilometres.
