Coimbatore: A 27-year-old man, who is employed in Qatar, has been booked for harassing his 23-year-old wife both physically and mentally.

The all-woman police (East) registered a case against Mohammed Idris, of Kittampalayam in Mettupalayam, based on a complaint lodged by his mother-in-law Habib Zareen Ghalib, 48, of Sowripalayam.

In her compliant, Zareen said her relative Idris had married her daughter Neha Ghalib in 2016, against the wishes of family members. Neha was then doing her final year medicine in a private institution. “After marriage, Neha came to know that her husband was psychopathic and undergoing treatment. His family had hidden this fact from her. He also lied to her about his educational qualification by producing fake degree certificates and used to harass her physically and mentally,” she said in the compliant.

The complainant’s daughter is now residing in California in the USA, while the accused is in Qatar.

Based on the complaint, all-woman police (East) registered a case against Mohammed Idris and his family members Aubil Hussain and Shamim Hussain, all hailing from Kittampalayam, under Sections 417, 420, 498(A) and 506(i) of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is on.
