Find Out How The Magnificent New Porsche 935 Came Into Being

The modern Porsche 935 lit the internet ablaze following its release in late September, and now, the automaker’s 9:11 Magazine has dropped a clip that details how it became a reality.

Some of Porsche’s most talented designers were tasked with creating a modern take on the iconic 935, based around the new 911 GT2 RS. In a matter of days, work was complete on the vehicle’s design, creating one of its most jaw-dropping models in recent memory.

Porsche’s designers weren’t just tasked with making the new 935 look good. They also had to ensure that it was extremely aerodynamic, allowing for improved performance over the already ultra-fast GT2 RS.

Most of the car’s retro-inspired body is constructed from lightweight carbon-fiber reinforced polymer. The new 935 also features the same LED lights as the 919 Hybrid LMP1, side mirrors identical to those of the 911 RSR, and titanium tailpipes designed to mimic those from the 1968 Porsche 908.

Beneath the beautiful bodywork, the new 935 is outfitted with a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six delivering a mighty 690 hp. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a seven-speed PDK transmission and a race-optimized limited slip differential. The car also weighs a mere 1380 kg (3042 lbs), further aiding in what promises to be exceptionally straight-line speed and on-track performance.

Porsche will build just 77 examples of the track-only creation, with European pricing starting at roughly $816,840 excluding VAT. Pricing for the U.S. market hasn’t been announced yet, but the German marque has confirmed the car will be imported and sold locally by Porsche Motorsport North America.
