District Electoral Officers in Tamil Nadu have begun the process of identifying officials to be nominated for poll duty ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Based on a letter from the Chief Electoral Officer, Satyabrata Sahoo, District Electoral Officers have issued directions to all heads of departments in their respective regions to furnish details of their office staff in a prescribed format.
Compiling database
“Personnel requirement at various level for appointment of polling personnel like sector/zonal magistrate, presiding officers, polling officers etc. has to be assured. For this purpose, details of officers/ officials working in the Central/State government, public sector undertakings etc, in the district has to be obtained and compiled as a database,” the letter said.
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Sahoo said the process was a usual one ahead of the elections. “The electoral rolls are published by a time frame. Sometimes, there will be some districts that will be bifurcated. Sometimes, the Election Commission will give instructions of staff requirements… this is an ongoing process,” he said.
