Violations rampant at an intersection opposite GH

more-in

Lane violations are rife in the city. Some lead to freak accidents and a few are a near-miss. On Monday, a cab driver taking a u-turn at the intersection of E.V.R. Periyar Salai and Evening Bazaar Road was about to knock down a differently-abled person riding a scooter.

The motorist coming from Evening Bazaar Road was riding towards Chennai Central. Luckily, the cab driver applied the brakes on time.

Motorists and pedestrians want better regulation at this intersection. They want motorists to be prevented from taking a u-turn at the Wall Tax Road, Pallavan Salai and Anna Nagar Arch intersection.

As per the traffic rules, motorists should come through South Mint Street and Evening Bazaar Road to enter the eastern lane of the stretch, E.V.R. Periyar Salai.

“Motorists coming from Broadway are at the risk of being knocked down by those taking a u-turn at the intersection,” said A. Parthiban, a motorist.

U-turn violations are also common at Evening Bazaar Road. The traffic police personnel deployed at the intersection remain a mute spectator to the chaos.

A pedestrian signal at the intersection is also much needed.

When crossing the lane to go to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, motorists coming from Chennai Fort terminal jump lane and pose a risk to the crossing pedestrians.

A Chennai Traffic Police official, said, “An additional police personnel will be deployed at the turning area to prevent motorists from taking a u-turn.”
