AGRA: Agra tourism police recovered an iPhone of a US resident, worth Rs 1.10 lakh, who had lost it while she was visiting Taj Mahal - setting a new parameter for effective and prompt policing.
The incident took place on Thursday evening, when California-based Concepción Lara (46) mistakenly left her phone in a restaurant, which was later taken away by another tourist, who had come to visit Taj Mahal.
CO of Tourism police Mohsin Khan told TOI, “Lara was on a three-month-long world tour. She had bought a new iPhone which she lost. Immediately after the report, we initiated the online tracking of phone and found it with another tourist within less than 25 minutes.”
“During interrogation, the man (tourist) claimed that he had no intention to keep the phone with himself; he wanted to return. Since Lara did not wish to lodge any complaint, we took no legal action,” the officer said.
Happy over the quick response and recovery, Lara even left an appreciation letter for tourism police which was widely shared on social networking.
In the letter, Lara wrote, “I was devastated[AC1] after I lost my phone and had decided to cancel my world tour, as my friends believed that in billion population country, there was no chance that I could recover my phone ever. But thanks to prompt action by Tourism police of Agra, my phone was recovered in less than 30 minutes.”
According to police, Lara is a writer who is currently working for a travel firm based in Los Angeles.
On October 25, the tourism police of Agra managed to recover money stolen from a group of seven Dutch nationals within half an hour.
