PATNA: A day after Diwali, people on Thursday were busy preparing for Chitragupta Puja and Bhai Dooj which will be celebrated on Friday.
The devotees, primarily Kayasthas, will observe fast and throng temples to participate in traditional morning prayer of Lord Chitragupta.
The puja will begin with writing with pen and ink in front of the idols of Lord Chitragupta and his 12 ancestors. According to mythology, Lord Chitragupta, as the God of writing skills, travels to the Earth with a ‘dawat’ (inkpot) and pen. Therefore, Chitragupta Puja is also known as Dawat Puja, where pen and inkpot are worshipped by people.
Shri Chitragupta Sabha-Patna will install an idol of Lord Chitragupta at Mithila Colony, Nasriganj. The puja will be conducted under the supervision of Sabha’s president B B Lal and general secretary Suman Kumar Das. In the evening, a cultural programme will be organised.
A calendar for 2019, with photographs of Lord Chitragupta, will also be released on the occasion by various Chitragupta community heads.
Meanwhile, as part of Bhai Dooj rituals, women from all age groups will observe fast for long and healthy life of their brothers. Sisters perform the traditional rituals by applying vermillion or ‘tilak’ on the forehead of their brothers and tying holy thread on their wrists.
