CHENNAI: AIADMK workers on Thursday targeted some theatres in Coimbatore and Madurai screening Vijay-starrer “Sarkar.” What provoked the AIADMK workers was that the movie criticised the ruling party and named one of the characters as ‘Komalavalli,’ which was the original name of late party chief J Jayalalithaa.

On Wednesday, a day after “Sarkar” was released, Tamil Nadu ministers Anbalagan, C V Shanmugam, D Jayakumar and Kadambur Raju reacted saying that the government would initiate action against the main actor, director, producer and other crew members of the movie.

On Thursday, some party workers tore posters and banners of the movie in front of theatres in Madurai and Coimbatore.

However, no such incident had been reported in Chennai, police said. Based on the request of theatre owners, police personnel have been deployed at the theatres screening “Sarkar” in Chennai.

Meanwhile, one Devarajan lodged complaint with the Chennai city police commissioner seeking legal action against “Sarkar” crew members for defaming the late AIADMK leader.
