Hubballi: Civic workers locked the HDMC commissioner’s office here on Wednesday to protest the non-payment of their salaries. The pourakarmikas were miffed that their salaries were not released even during Diwali.
They alleged that despite several memoranda, the authorities are least bothered about releasing the pending salaries. Gangadhar Tagargunti, leader of the Pourkarmika Sangh, said that officials are misguiding civic workers by stating that they sanction salaries as soon as they receive funds from the government. “But salaries of officials are paid on time. Because of such discrepancy, we have lost the festive mood at home. We have become helpless before our children,” he stated.
Responding to the protest, HDMC commissioner Shakeel Ahmed assured that the salaries will be paid in a day or two.
