The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday directed the Centre to file a status report on the steps taken so far to establish All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Thoppur in Madurai.
A Division Bench of Justices K.K. Sasidharan and P.D. Audikesavalu directed the Centre to file the report and adjourned the case for further hearing. The court was hearing a public interest litigation petition seeking a direction to the Central government to publish in the Government Gazette the establishment of AIIMS at Thoppur, which has been chosen over four other locations for setting up the premier health institute in the State.
