The festival of lights Deepawali was celebrated with fervour by denizens on Wednesday. Goddess Lakshmi was worshipped in many organisations and shops in morning hours and in the residents of the city performed worship of the goddess in evening hours and enjoyed the occasion by bursting firecrackers. According to astrologers and Hindu panchang the Kartik Amavasya tithi will prevail till 9.31 pm on Wednesday.
Homes decorated:
People decorated their homes and shops with floral garlands, lights and other decorative items on the day of Diwali. Markets like Freeganj, Patani Bazar, Gopal Mandir, Malipura, Doulat Ganj and others were seen crowded with customers for purchasing items for puja and other things for the occasion. Shops of readymade clothes, sweets and florists were seen crowded with customers.
Sale of vehicles, electronic goods and jewelleries increased:
From Dhanteras till Diwali the sale of vehicles, jewelleries and electronic goods witnessed increase. According to sources local markets recorded the business of Rs 60-80 crores in in the city.
Abhishek performed in Gajlakshmi temple: Devotees thronged all the temples of goddess Lakshmi across the city to obtain her grace and blessings. In an old temple goddess Gajlakshmi was worshipped. The devotees performed the abhishek of the idol of Lakshmi on the occasion.
