Tesla replaces Elon Musk as a chairman

Tesla replaced Elon Musk as a chairman with one of its independent directors, Robyn Denholm.

The change in structure is part of a court settlement with regulators over Musks tweets about taking Tesla private.

Cox Automotive's executive publisher Karl Brauer: (SOUNDBITE) (English) COX AUTOMOTIVE, SENIOR DIRECTOR OF CONTENT AND EXECUTIVE PUBLISHER, KARL BRAUER, SAYING: "You know, it looks like Robyn's got a great history.

She's got experience, both on the automotive and the technology side.

So, she's got the pedigree to run this company and be the head.

I think had she been an independent person who wasn't already at Tesla, no one would have questioned it.

Now, the lingering question is, in spite of her history and her experience, will she have an independent voice as the chair?

Or will she be kind of predisposed to support Elon Musk as if, you know, he really still had full control of the company." Denholm is currently chief financial officer at Australian telecoms operator Telstra.

She has been on Tesla's board since 2014, its highest paid member last year, and she heads the company's audit committee.

She takes over as Tesla's chair immediately.
